I, Jameson Goldstein, believe that parking is a fundamental human right. Many Boulder citizens agree that the parking situation in Boulder is one of the greatest daily challenges, especially for students, with some citizens calling it “aggressive” and one student describing it as “something that has ruined my day countless times.” 

Boulder’s parking operations fall under the Downtown and University Hill Management Division (Parking Services), which operates as an enterprise fund supported by user fees rather than general tax dollars. This incentivizes confusing, aggressive, and annoying parking policies for profit. 

Did you know?

The city of Boulder is currently owed roughly $4,500,000 in unpaid parking citations.

The Plan:

  1. Institute free 45-minute parking instead of 15-minute street parking on the Hill and near Pearl Street

  2. Residents below a certain income threshold can apply to have qualifying first-time or low-level parking citations reduced or converted to warnings.

  3. Downscale Parking Services and transition it to no longer operate as an enterprise fund.

  4. Institute 24/7/365 FREE parking near student housing on the hill, and paint parking guidelines on streets with challenging or confusing parking availability.
